Dale Alice Dougherty, age 78, of Port Orange, Florida passed away suddenly on August 24th following a brief illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on January 14, 1948 to the late Donald and Aileen Richardson in Newport, RI, Dale grew up with a deep love for her family, friends and community. She spent her entire youth in Newport where she attended Roger's High School. On July 24, 1965 she married the love of her life, James L. Dougherty of Webster Groves, Missouri, a US Navy 2nd Class Petty Officer, homeported in Newport. For over 50 years, Dale and Jim called Newport home where they raised their children, while Jim pursued a successful career in the RI State Police and Dale managed multiple estates of prominent seasonal Newport residents while also managing a well-known restaurant. Upon retirement Dale and Jim moved to Port Orange, Florida in 2015. For 61 wonderful years, their enduring partnership was a true testament to a lifetime of love, patience and shared joy through the good and bad.

Whether in Newport or Port Orange, Dale was always the anchor of her family, working tirelessly in support of her three beloves children, Kimberly Dougherty of Middletown, RI and the late James D. and Steve J. Dougherty. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Donald Richardson of Colorado Springs, CO and sister Debra A. Camara of Port Orange, FL, her cherished grandchildren, Alycia Dougherty of Port Orange, FL, Courtney Clarke Coscarella of Tiverton, RI, grandson Casey Dougherty of Irvine, KY and great grandchildren, Elise and Nicolas Coscarella of Tiverton, RI and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dale will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, from 2:00-4:00, at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 620 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, FL 32127. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the "Tunnels to Towers Foundation"
