IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dan
Mcmullen
September 21, 1937 – September 23, 2024
My father, Dan McMullen , 87, of Inverness, Florida passed away on September 23, 2024 due to complications during surgery.
He was born in Elyria, Ohio to Carl and Lillian McMullen. He was a graduate of both Elyria High School and Cleveland State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. My Father was a Veteran and served in the Army as a Tank Driver.
He was a man that was successful in all that he did. With the help of my Grandfather, Stanley Bash, he built his first home in North Eaton, Ohio and in 1973 he bought an old farmhouse in Grafton, Ohio and started renovations on it. During his time on the farm, he was also able to have a menagerie of animals which included horses and he passed on his love of those horses to me. He was also an avid golfer and started his love of the game as a boy caddying at a golf course his family lived next to. My Mother, Joyce McMullen, would tell me that he was so good that he could have become a professional golfer. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful Dad. My Father worked as a Certified Public Accountant in both Ohio and Wisconsin.
When he retired, he was the Director of Taxes at Universal Foods/Sensient Technologies Corporation of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My parents enjoyed being members of both bowling and golf leagues. While living in Wisconsin they also joined an English Mark Dart League. My Father was a motorcycle enthusiast who owned a Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide and took many rides throughout the Wisconsin countryside.
After my Father retired, he and my Mother moved to the Ranches, South of Inverness, Florida. They became members of the Wisconsin Club, American Irish Club of West Citrus, and were members of the Board of Directors for their homeowner's association. Until recently he was the Treasurer of the American Irish Club. My Father volunteered with the Citrus County Sheriff's Crime Watch Program and patrolled Inverness in one of their vehicles. He was very artistic with his woodworking skills by building beautiful bookcases, tables, tool chests, and a caddy to hold golf clubs. He was a member of the St. Scholastica Church in Lecanto, Florida.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Merritt, and son-in-law Wesley Merritt; his sister Sue McNeal, including several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Carl McMullen; his nephew, Todd McMullen; his wife, Joyce McMullen; and his brother, Alan McMullen. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in his name. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, Largo, Florida.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Scholastic Church, 4301 W. Homosassa Trail, Lecanto, Florida 34461 on October 28, 2024 at 11:00am.
