January 13, 1951 – March 8, 2025
Daniel Robert Schauf Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend
Daniel Robert Schauf, affectionately known as Dan, was born on January 13, 1951, at Siblay Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., and passed away on March 8, 2025, in Punta Gorda, Florida. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl A. Tweden-Schauf.
He leaves behind his children, Sherri A. Schauf and Robert "Bobby" A. Schauf, and his grandson, Steven Schauf. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Settle of Ft. Pierce, Florida, his twin sister, Margaret "Peggy" Settle, her husband Bill of Culpeper, Virginia, his sister-in-law Judith Schauf of Reisterstown, Maryland, sister-in-law Diane (Robert) Wilson, and brother-in-law Steven (Tina) Spears.
Dan will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, who were lucky to share countless memories with their Uncle Danny. His dear friends will also hold his memory close, always treasuring the time they spent together.
Dan was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Edward Daniel Schauf and Caroline Hommel Schauf, as well as his sister June and brother-in-law Norman Jones, his brother Edward A. Schauf, and his sister Barbara and brother-in-law Joseph Calvo.
Growing up in Capital Heights in Edgewater, Maryland, Dan was surrounded by the love of his siblings and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. He fondly recalled the many hours spent fishing and crabbing, along with his passion for sports, particularly football. Although a serious shoulder injury cut his athletic pursuits short, those early years instilled in him a deep appreciation for family, for the gatherings and adventures he shared with his parents and siblings.
Dan served with honor and dedication as a police officer in the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., from 1971 until his retirement in 1993. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned numerous awards and citations for his exemplary service and commitment to the community. After retiring, Dan relocated to Florida, where he enjoyed the next chapter of his life.
On February 18, 2006, Dan married Cheri. Their bond was a true testament to love, built on shared adventures and cherished memories. The couple frequently traveled to Disney and California to visit family and found immense joy in the serene beaches of Florida. Together, they built a dream home—one that not only served as a sanctuary but as a gathering place for laughter, love, and unforgettable family dinners. Their home was often filled with the warmth of conversation, delicious meals, and beautiful decorations, especially during the holidays, when their home became a haven for family and friends.
As Dan's health declined in his later years, Cheri devoted herself to his care with unwavering love, embodying the depth of their lifelong commitment. Their relationship was a shining example of dedication, loyalty, and love.
Dan will always be remembered for his boundless kindness, generosity, and the profound love he had for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life.
