Obituary

Alfred David Alchin known to most as David, to the RC community  DaGliderGuy, or The Brit.  Born in London, England 10-3-1930, departed this earth in Ocala FL on 8-17-2024 but what an impact he made on many during his 93 years.

Survived by his wife of 35 years, Diane Carlyon Alchin, Daughter Denise Jane Morley, sons Paul Alchin and Nick Alchin, Daughters in law Clare Alchin and Kirsty Alchin, step daughters Julia Garcia and Jennifer Banfield.   Brother Les Alchin and sister Patricia.  Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren.  Proceeded in death by his first born son, Christopher, who died in a tragic accident as a toddler.

Life so colorful and diverse cannot be captured in a short obit.  David lost his mother when he was 8,  His father joined the military at the beginning of WWII leaving David with this grandmother in London so he was there during the blitz – he could recount the bombs falling, and going to the underground shelter.   When the Pied Piper project was initiated he was evacuated to Daventry where he resided for 4 years  He had various occupations, including a freight forwarding business, but he followed in his fathers footsteps and primarily was a metal polisher establishing his own shop in Oakland, CA in the mid 1980's.  He came to the USA in 1980 and ended up in the SF Bay Area where he met his third wife, Diane.  They moved to Modesto, CA in 1988 and to Ocala, FL in 2015.  Guess why?  The OTOW community has it's own RC flying field.

David developed his love of model building as a child when he was given a model kit.  He continued this passion up until the day he was hospitalized.  Primarily RC sailplanes, wooden boats, and in the last two years high end Pocher model cars.  Obsessed with perfection he won many awards for his craftsmanship and attention to detail.  The last sailplane project being the RJ5.  He was also a top notch dart and pool player participating in league play and winning many trophies.  Oh yes, restorer of British cars (MGA, MGB, Alpine), Bradley kit car and a 57 T'bird – awards for these as well.

David loved to socialize, raise a glass, travel, proper fish and chips, tell a story and so so much more.

At his request no services – RIP David
