David Christian Allen, age 73, died after a brief battle with cancer on July 21, 2023, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
David was born November 17, 1949, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Richard and Laurie Allen.
David is survived by his wife Peggy, of 10 years; his son David Todd Allen of Gothenburg, Sweden; Heather (Darin) O'Tuel of Smyrna, Georgia; and Allyssa (Charlie) Gum of Cincinnati, Ohio; his grandchildren: Felicia, Nike, Benjamin, and Loke Allen, Carter and Grayson Gum, and Brady and Tanner O'Tuel; his brother Bill (Cindy Cipriani)Allen; his nephews: Tristan and Tucker Allen; his stepchildren: Nicolas (Shavonne) Koegen and Natalia (Aaron) Koegen; and step grandchildren: Phin Koegen, Kendall Koegen, River Peck, Jasper Peck, and Meadow Peck.
David was preceded in death by his brother Jim Allen and his parents Richard and Laurie Allen.
David graduated from Worthington High School, class of 1967, in Columbus, Ohio.
David received his undergraduate degree in finance from the Ohio State University. He also participated in the ROTC during his time there. He then went on to receive his MBA from the University of Cincinnati. While he was working on his MBA, he also served as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserves.
David worked for Champion Paper Company as a purchasing agent for many years; moved on to be one the owners of the MicroAge computer company; and ultimately retired from his career as a technology consultant to many companies, including Camp Pendleton Marine Base in San Diego, California.
David faithfully attended Lighthouse Worship Center in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. In Spring Lake Michigan, he attended Harvest Church.
David enjoyed spending his time with his wonderful wife at both of their homes in New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Fruitport, Michigan. He loved going to watch movies in the theater on date night, Funday Fridays, trying out new restaurants, going to the shooting range, reading, martial arts (3 rd degree black belt), traveling (almost bought property in Ecuador), and spending quality time with family and friends.
The funeral service and visitation will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services; 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Burial to follow at the Trufant, MI cemetery.
