David Berglund, 77, of Ocala, Florida and New Britain, Connecticut, died unexpectedly on June 8, 2023. He was born on May 1, to Walter and Mae (Fresen) Berglund in New Britain, CT. He attended New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, where he made lifelong brothers both in and out of the Lambda Epsilon Delta fraternity. After graduating, he moved back to New Britain and began his career as an auditor for the IRS, where he stayed until he retired in 2005. Dave and Karen Meeks were married on November 6, 1971 and their children are Dana Berglund of Portland, Oregon and William (Bill) Berglund of New Britain, Connecticut. Dave was an active member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in New Britain for many years. After retirement, Dave and Karen moved to the warmer weather of central Florida, where he volunteered for many organizations, including the therapeutic horse riding organization, services for the blind, and the Bridges Project. He also found a new church home at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Ocala. Dave was passionate about his hobbies and interests. Friendships he made at lake communities in Maine and New Hampshire also played important roles in his life. In earlier years, he loved the bowling league, building model trains, coaching Little League and rooting for the Hartford Whalers. In more recent years, he loved golfing with his friends, meeting friends at the dog park or pub trivia, and supporting women's basketball teams (Go UConn!). Dave is survived by his beloved wife Karen, his children Dana and Bill, his grandchildren Remington and Lochlan, and his cousins and friends. Sadly, he was followed a few days later by his loyal dog, Fonzie. A small memorial gathering will be held on July 8th at 1:30pm at First Congregational Church in Ocala, FL. Memorials or donations may be made to Marion Therapeutic Riding Association in Ocala, Florida, or the Special Olympics.
