Obituary

David Michael Elbon, age 70, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).

Dave was born in Barberton, Ohio, on April 8, 1956, to Val and Ruth (Witte) Elbon. He graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1974 and married his high school sweetheart, Paula (Wheeland), on June 21, 1974. Together, they shared 52 years of marriage, building a life centered on family, adventure, and love.

Shortly after their marriage, Dave proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Originally stationed in Germany, he completed eight years of active-duty service while living in several states across the country. Following his honorable discharge, Dave continued his commitment to military service in the Air Force Reserves before transitioning to the private sector.

Dave began his civilian career as an electrician at the Lakeland Power Plant and later joined the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC), where he built a distinguished 31-year career. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree from Valencia in 1989. He retired in 2018 as a Maintenance Supervisor, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his career.

Dave and Paula raised their three children—Jenny, Julie, and Jason—in Orlando. Family was always at the center of Dave's life. The family enjoyed weekends on the water boating, fishing, and shrimping, as well as annual trips to the Gulf Coast for scalloping adventures. They also created countless memories as annual passholders at Walt Disney World. The family also looked forward to regular road trips back to Ohio, where time spent with grandparents, siblings, cousins, and lifelong friends created memories that would be cherished for generations.

Dave never strayed far from a fresh cup of coffee, whether at work, at home, or on the road. Dave could often be found with a cup of coffee in his hand, ready to take on the day. Dave had a passion for good food and was an avid viewer of the Food Network, especially his favorite, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. He would often recreate his favorite recipes he discovered on the shows for family and friends.

In retirement, Dave and Paula embraced their love of travel, taking road trips across the country—including visits to Ohio, Indiana, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas—and enjoying well over 100 cruises together throughout the Caribbean and beyond.

Above all, Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, sense of humor, love of adventure, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Dave is survived by his wife, Paula (Wheeland) Elbon; daughters, Jenny (Brian) Kruer of Palmrya, IN, and Julie Arroyo (Tony) of Ocala, FL; son, Jason Elbon of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Brianna Parker, Austin Parker, Ariana Kruer, and Bryce Kruer; brothers, Dan Elbon of Akron, OH and Don Elbon of Orlando, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Val and Ruth (Witte) Elbon.

A final committal service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Crosspointe Church, 5494 SW 50th Ct, Ocala, FL 34474.

The family would like to thank all those who have offered their prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time.
