Obituary

David John Hornick, lovingly known as Dave, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at the age of 85 in The Villages, Florida. Born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on November 1, 1939, David leaves behind a legacy of kindness, intelligence, and humility that touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Growing up with a passion for sports, David excelled as a baseball pitcher and earned a full scholarship to Bowling Green State University. His academic ambitions mirrored his passion for the game, culminating in a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. He took those skills to new heights when he established his own business, Hornick Business Forms, running it diligently for 40 years before his retirement in 2004.

In 1963, David married his lifelong partner, Marlene Gibbs, and together they built a beautiful home in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Their marriage of 62 years stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment and love for each other. In Bethel Park, David extended his love for baseball beyond the college field, coaching local children's Little League and later football, all while being an active member of Saint Louise de Marillac Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Upon retiring, David and Marlene moved to The Villages in 2011, where they became valued members of Saint Timothy's Church in Lady Lake, Florida.

David's life was adorned with beloved sports and fellowship. Avidly passionate about golf and baseball, he often shared endearing stories of his pitching days—tales that will be sorely missed. His lanai became a haven, a cherished space where he spent hours enjoying the company of his dogs, Lola, Tallulah, Stella, and Lucy, savoring the serenity of his backyard.

A devout Catholic, his faith was constant and unwavering, offering strength and guidance throughout his life. His capacity for compassion was boundless, marked by an innate generosity and humility that saw him positively influence countless lives.

David is predeceased by his parents, George Hornick Sr. and Francis Allison Hornick; his brother, George Hornick Jr.; and sister, Norma Jean Hornick Keyser. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene, with whom he shared a deep and profound bond, and their devoted daughter, Laura. Though his physical presence has departed, his spirit lives on through the memories and impact he made. In celebration of his life, a Catholic mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations to Cornerstone Hospice House in The Villages, Florida, whose kindness and compassion were invaluable during his final days. The family extends their deepest gratitude to them for their dedicated assistance and care.
