David C. McEvers, 90, of Fort Myers, FL passed away on 08/23/19. He was born in Osborn, Ohio to Dave and Gail McEvers. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Dwight) Cameron, Jill (Vic) Dombrowski, Marcia McEvers, his grandchildren Chrissy (Jarrett) Shoemaker, Christopher and Eric Dombrowski and his great granddaughter Payton Shoemaker. He is preceded in death by his wife Juliana (Miller) McEvers, his son David S. McEvers and his brother Dale McEvers

David graduated from Osborn Bath High School in 1947 where he won nine athletic letters in three sports and was a three-year starter in football and basketball. He was twice named most valuable player and held the school record as well as the Dayton Coliseum record for most points in one game. He placed in the state track finals and was involved in six school records-three for individual events and three for relays. The inscription beneath his yearbook picture was "Most Likely to Coach."

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wittenberg University where he played football and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received his Master of Administration degree from Eastern Michigan University.

David served in the U.S. Army where he was assigned to Special Services as Athletic Director in Vienna, Austria. He was a player/coach for numerous Army teams and a member of USFA and Southern European Championship basketball teams and the winning team in the European Track Championship between troops from several countries.

He began teaching at Mt. Clemens High School (Michigan) in 1957 where he taught Biology and Physical Education. He initially coached football and then began coaching Track and Field and Cross Country. Eventually he also coached Cross Country at Gross Pointe North High School. He received numerous county Coach of the Year awards, was twice named Michigan High School Coach of the Year and on two occasions received an Outstanding Coach award from the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association. In 1995 he was elected to the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame and in 1997 he was inducted into the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame.

After his retirement from teaching and coaching, he became a track  official,  traveling throughout  the Unites States serving as an Official with the U.S. Track and Field Association for 18 years. He was invited  to be an official for the 2004 United States Olympic track and field trials but he had already retired from officiating in 2003.

There will be a Memorial Celebration of David's life on September 14, 2019 which will begin on the track at Mt. Clemens High School at 1:00 pm. From there the celebration will continue in downtown Mt. Clemens at Madison's Pub at 3:30 pm.
