David R.
Myers
March 8, 1964 – June 10, 2022
"If there's a heaven for me, I'm sure it has a beach attached" -Jimmy Buffett
Our beloved Dave left for his next adventure from the Halifax Hospice in Ormand Beach, Florida, after an extended illness with his wife by his side. Dave was born March 8, 1964, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Harry and Sharon Robinson Myers. He grew up a typical 'army brat', living in California and Hawaii when he was young, and first heard the call of the ocean.
The family returned to their hometown, Lafayette, Indiana, where Dave attended Jefferson High School. He became an accomplished construction worker, attaining his Union Master Electrician card, and later heading his own business. His talent was amazing, doing new construction and remodeling. He also worked in the restaurant industry occasionally, where his love of food and entertaining made him a most popular server. He liked to brag that he could sell a plate of ribs to an elderly woman with white gloves! To say he was charming would be an understatement.
Kim Galloway was honored to become his wife on September 26, 1998, in Bloomington, Indiana. Like everything else Dave did, it was a party for family and friends, complete with a hog roast. Together they called Lafayette; Bloomington; Murray, Kentucky, and finally Terre Haute, Indiana home.
Dave was a true free spirit. He loved traveling, meeting new people, and simply enjoying life. His laugh was contagious, his smile infectious, and the twinkle in his eye could melt your heart. He could also be difficult, ornery, and stubborn, but we always knew his heart was with his loved ones. if you were lucky enough to know Dave, then you know he would do anything for anyone. Stranded on the side of the road? He stopped. Need a place to stay? Always have a spare bed or couch. Hungry? Good God, you hit the jackpot!
An accomplished chef, Dave delighted in feeding everyone. From the yearly fish fry in Bloomington, to the Christmas prime rib dinners for family and friends, food was a passion. The grocery store was one of his favorite places, making friends with every butcher in town, bargaining for the best prices. Homemade noodles, seafood linguine, the famous Oreo dessert and anything grilled were his specialties, but he could cook anything, and it was always with love.
Dave's interests and passions were as varied as his moods. He loved the beach, any beach, but especially Florida. He made Naples his home for several years, returning often to visit family and friends. Dave was always up for fishing. Anytime, anywhere- be it ocean, lake, river or strip pit, you could find him with his pole. He loved antiques, collecting anything that caught his eye. He loved finding the unexpected treasures, and his choices in beautiful furniture will be with his family for generations.
Being a beach bum at heart, it's no surprise that Jimmy Buffett was a big part of our lives. His concerts were always a time for family, friends and parties. Dave would be happy knowing he has influenced two more generations to be Parrotheads! Fins Up!! He also loved the blues, B. B. King and Buddy Guy being favorites, with the Grateful Dead in there for good measure.
Dave's most important legacy, and his reason for living, was his family. He was blessed with an amazing daughter, the light of his life, Jennifer Lane Kawlewski (Andrew) and son Nick Galloway, great friend, and partner in adventure. To his utter delight, he became a grandfather, absolutely reveling in his new role. Ashlyn stole his heart first, followed by Brent, Caleb, Caden, Harper and Kaleb. Papaw adored them all, spoiled them all, and loved them fiercely.
His welcoming committee in Heaven includes his mother, Sharon Robinson Myers Dildine; brother, Mark Myers; and grandson, Brent Kawlewski.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife Kim, who is grateful for almost 30 years of love and laughter; father, Harry Myers; brothers Tom Myers and Joe Myers (Sonja); sister, Diane Myers; children, grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Cremation was Dave's wish, and his family will hold a private celebration of life at a future date.
