Obituary

David Lee Sandel, age 79, passed into the arms of our Lord the morning of Friday, April 11, 2025.

David was a resident of the Daytona Beach area since 2015.

He cared deeply for his family and close friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the warmth of sunshine and a cold beer, the ocean, enigmas and a good laugh. He was a deep thinker who had a tough exterior and a tender heart.

David was born on June 14, 1945, in Stanley, WI to parents Leon Harry Sandel and Wanda Theresa (Pawlicki) Sandel.

David was raised in Thorp, WI and graduated from St. Hedwig grade school and Thorp High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 101 st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) as a paratrooper with assignments in Vietnam and other locations.

Following his military service, he completed his undergraduate degree in business at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. He continued to pursue his education and graduated from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, AZ with a master's degree in international management.

In his career, he worked in the oil industry and held high management positions with several companies traveling overseas, with his first assignment in Saudi Arabia. In his career overseas, he resided in Saudia Arabia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines.

In his early years he was married to Yvonne "Bonnie" (Hoffstatter) Sandel and the couple had two children together, Mark Sandel and Brian Sandel.

He married Helen Jean (Maso-ay) Sandel on May 15,1986 in the Philippines and the couple had two children together, Katrina (Sandel) Ollila and Leonard Sandel.

David was known as "The Professor" at the professional care facilities, Indigo Manor and Emory L. Bennet Veteran's Nursing Home, where he resided in his later years.

David was preceded in death by his father Leon Harry Sandel, his mother Wanda Theresa (Pawlicki) Sandel, and first wife, Yvonne "Bonnie" (Hoffstatter) Sandel.

David is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 39 years Helen Sandel; his four children: Mark Sandel (Darlene), Brian Sandel (Melissa), Katrina Ollila (Dan), and Leonard Sandel; his five beautiful grandchildren: Dexter Sandel, Deacon Sandel, Sheldon Sandel, Linnea Sandel, and Margo Ollila; his loving brother and sister: Jim Sandel (Lee) and Charlene Bushek (Pat); his nieces and nephews: Lizette Deren (Michael), JC Sandel, Joseph Bushek (Amanda), Kristy Marling (Christopher), and Luke Bushek (Madison) and the blessings of many grand nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US Highway 1, Mims, FL 32754. The family is thankful to those who helped care for him and became extended family at Indigo Manor Nursing Home and Emory L. Bennett Veteran's Nursing Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to Emory L. Bennett Veteran's Nursing Home,1920 Mason Ave. Checks can be made out to Emory L Bennet with a memo for donation in memory of David Sandel.
