IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David A.
Skipp
January 18, 1937 – February 8, 2025
On Saturday, February 8, 2025 David Skipp (Dave) (88) passed away peacefully at home. While still alert enough, Dave enjoyed the time, together with his family, looking at pictures and videos and remembering all the vacations and fun times they had for many years.
Born January 18,1937, in Pittsburg, PA to Alexander and Mena Skipp Sr, he graduated from Latrobe High School in 1954 where he played basketball. After attending Geneva College, PA for a year, he went to work at Westinghouse, for a short time. Having decided to go back to college, he attended Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, graduating with a BS in Business Administration in 1960. He proudly served 6 years in the Army National Guard and Reserves.
In 1958, he worked for the summer at Sears Roebuck & Co Credit Department, where he met his future wife, Judith (Judy) Grocott. They were married September 16, 1961, two weeks after Judy's graduation from Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing. While on their honeymoon in Canada, his Guard unit was recalled to serve in Fort Polk LA for another 11 months.
His entire career was in Insurance, working in Philadelphia, PA, Albany, NY, and Towson, MD for General Accident. In 1979 he joined Reliance Insurance Co and was transferred to Milwaukee, WI. After four years, Reliance changed ownership to General Casualty and he was transferred to Overland Park, KS. He earned his CPC and CIC in Insurance, finishing his career in the home office, in Sun Prairie, WI., before retiring to Mount Dora, FL.
While in Sun Prairie, he belonged to Rotary and was co-chairman, of the Business Campaign, that raised two million dollars, to build a new library for the town.
Volunteering was always important to Dave, in every church he attended. In Mount Dora, he was an active volunteer at Lake Cares Food Pantry for 10 years. Rarely one to say "no", he was dedicated to serving and helping others.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Judith Skipp; loving children Lori Seidl, and Richard Skipp (Andrea); Grandchildren Alan and Emma Seidl of Olathe, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Mena Skipp Sr; his brother and sister-in-law Alexander and Peggy Skipp Jr; his niece Christy Kos; and his son-in-law William (Bill) Seidl.
A Celebration of life to honor Dave will be held March 15, 2025 at St. Philip Lutheran Church at 11:00 am with a light luncheon to follow in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Philip Lutheran Church, 1050 Boyd Drive, Mount Dora FL 32757, in support of their many outreach programs to serve others or Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares FL 32778.
