David E. Wall, 80, died on July 16, 2024, at the place he loved: his home on the St. John's River in Deland, Florida. He was born to the late Wilkes Hammock and Elizabeth Wall and grew up in his hometown of Cookeville, Tennessee.

After graduating from Cookeville High School, he went on to attend Tennessee Technological University. Before completing his degree, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through R.O.T.C. and served three years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Upon returning home he re-entered college and earned a degree in Civil Engineering. Initially managing construction projects, he later transitioned to the environmental field for the remainder of his career.

After meeting in college, David married Judy Pullum in 1973. Career moves led them to various places, and they ultimately retired to Deland, Florida. After joining the skydiving club in college, he developed a love of the sport and remained active throughout his entire life. In addition to this passion, he also enjoyed driving fast, collecting and working on old cars, traveling, scuba diving, going on sailing trips with newfound friends, taking old friends and family out on the pontoon boat to tour the river, learning how to play the bagpipes, and—most of all—piddling. Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Judy, of 51 years, and a sister Jacqueline (Tom) Moore, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of a life well lived will be held at their home in November with a specific date to be determined.

David will be remembered as an adventurous, humble and generous man with a dry wit, and for his penchant for telling silly jokes.
