David William
Nelson
January 20, 1954 – May 28, 2026
David William Nelson, 72, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on May 28, 2026.
Born on January 20, 1954, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, David was the son of the late William Joseph Nelson and Frances Speaker Nelson.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother.
David is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Mary Jo Shultz Nelson; his son, Jef Nelson and partner, Jody; his beloved grandson, Dawlton Nelson and wife, Amanda; his brothers, Jeffrey Nelson and John Nelson; his brothers-in-law, Jack and Debbie; his sisters-in-law, Diane Roan and Veronica Grafmyre; his cousin, Ray Fox; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and sense of humor touched the lives of many. He graduated from State College High School in 1974 and later attended classes at Williamsport College. David was a small business owner and car dealer that had a love for antique cars.
Throughout his life, David enjoyed being actively involved in his community and was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion, the Elks, the Moose, the Eagles, and the Masonic Lodge. He had a passion for travel and adventure (really his wife), spending countless hours exploring the country in his RV alongside Mary Jo. Together, they created treasured memories traveling up and down the East Coast, visiting Hawaii and the Florida Keys, and spending summers at their beloved Raystown Lake.
Above all else, David cherished time spent with family and friends. Whether gathered around a campfire, sharing stories, or celebrating life’s milestones, he found his greatest joy in the people he loved.
David’s legacy of love, loyalty, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. While he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will be cherished forever.
