IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis Clark
Clinton
April 14, 1937 – November 19, 2024
Dennis Clark Clinton, a kind-hearted and spirited individual who embraced life with joy and resilience, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024. Born on April 14, 1937, to Clora and Aleta Clinton, Dennis grew up in Winter Haven, Florida, where he developed a love for adventure, family, and the simple pleasures of life.
A proud graduate of Winter Haven High School, Class of 1955, Dennis's athleticism on the football field earned him a scholarship to East Tennessee State in Johnson City, Tennessee. Although his decision to step away from the game marked the end of his time there, his determination to shape his own path led him home, ready for the next chapter. In 1961, he earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Florida Southern College, where his academic excellence was recognized with the prestigious Florida Citrus Mutual Award for outstanding achievement.
Dennis's community spirit shone brightly throughout his life. As president of the Optimist Club, he brought joy to many by selling Christmas trees and sharing the holiday spirit. His thoughtfulness and creativity were especially evident during Christmas, when he delighted his family with uniquely wrapped gifts that added an element of surprise and fun.
In July 1961, Dennis answered the call to serve his country, spending two years in Korea as a dedicated member of the U.S. Army.
Dennis's resilience was evident even in his early years. He survived two childhood accidents where he was struck by a car, both times receiving care from the same compassionate policeman who ensured his safety and recovery.
After his service, Dennis began a long and successful career as a plant inspector for the State of Florida, living in Pompano Beach. During this time, he met Margo Ernst, with whom he shared a loving and fulfilling relationship. The couple eventually married, and Dennis embraced Margo's children as his own. Together, they cherished their travels to the North Carolina mountains, where they found peace and beauty in the changing seasons.
In retirement, Dennis and Margo moved to their dream home in Port St. Lucie, where they built a life filled with love and companionship until Margo's passing.
Dennis was a passionate fisherman, often sharing the joy of the sport with his lifelong friends Chester Eason, Burt Shoten, and Ed Cody. His warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Dennis is survived by his children: William (Ronda) Ernst, Robert (Jacquelyn) Ernst, and Jeanne Ernst; his brothers: Larry (Genelda) Clinton and Norman (Lana) Clinton; his sisters: Margaret Tierney and Mae (Harvey) Streekstra; several nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind cherished memories with dear friends and extended family
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clora and Aleta Clinton, and his beloved wife, Margo Ernst Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice in Dennis's memory.
Dennis Clark Clinton will be fondly remembered for his generosity, courage, and unwavering love for those around him. His legacy of kindness and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to share in his remarkable life.
