Obituary

Dennis James McNeil, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and esteemed veteran, passed away at the age of 82, peacefully at home on April 9, 2026. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Vincent and Elizabeth McNeil.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda McNeil; his children: Lisa (Pat) Gatons, Brian (Charo) McNeil, Robyn Rafferty (Dennis), Bobby (Michelle) Fiore, and Jeff (Stephanie) Fiore; His legacy also includes his grandchildren: Dante (Ian), Paige, Kevin, Jaxon, Joey, Francesca, Cory, Samantha, Mia, and Dominick James; siblings: Ilene Wickner, Pat Lawlor, Bobby, Lois DeSilva, and Charlie. He is proceeded in death by brother Vince.

Dennis proudly served in the United States Navy. He was a Corpsman stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. He was a member of the American Legion Veterans Memorial Post 347. He was an honored veteran of Mission 63 of The Villages Honor Flight on October 2, 2024, and a devoted member of St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church where he was also a lector for the Holy Gospel at Mass.

Dennis worked as a Landscape Designer and was deeply committed to his career. He officiated Basketball at High School & College Level, being a member of IAABO Association for many years. He also coached Bob Court Basketball while living in New Jersey.

Dennis moved to The Villages in 2010. He worked for The Villages Community Watch for 10 years. He enjoyed playing golf, softball and Bocce. Also, performed in multiple plays in the Villages. He also took pleasure in playing cards with family, friends & neighbors. He dedicated himself to his work and took pride in providing for those he cared about. Beyond his professional life, Dennis found meaning in the simple things – time spent with family, conversations with friends, and moments of reflection that revealed his deep appreciation for life.

Dennis will be remembered for his character, his integrity, and the warmth he extended to those around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories that will continue to be shared by loved ones.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Inurnment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 12:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
