Don W. Apple's Obituary

Don W. Apple, 86, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Born on June 6, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, Don spent most of his life in Indianapolis, Indiana, before relocating to Fort Myers in 2002. He built a life defined by dedication to his family, his work, and his community.

Don enjoyed a long and successful career with Indianapolis Life Insurance Company, where he worked for 40 years as a Corporate Purchasing Agent. Known for his reliability and steady presence, he took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career.

A passionate supporter of youth athletics, Don devoted countless hours to coaching and mentoring young people. He coached at Eagledale Little League and the Greater Northwest Football Club, including more than 20 years as a coach for the Northwest Caps football team. He also served as a baseball coach at Northwest High School for three years. His commitment to developing not only athletes, but confident and disciplined young individuals, left a lasting impact on many in the community.

Don was an avid sports fan who remained loyal to his Chicago roots, enthusiastically supporting the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears, as well as Purdue University athletics.

In Fort Myers, Don continued his commitment to service and community. He was an active member of First Christian Church and served as President of the Pine Ridge of Fort Myers Homeowners Association for eight years, where his leadership and care for his neighbors were deeply appreciated.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Joy (Clingerman) Apple, whom he married in 1987; his children, Mark Apple, Matt Apple, and Angela (Zeiher) Trotta; his grandchildren, Meredith Glaze (Logan Glaze), Payton Apple, David Apple, Madeline Schall (Brady Schall), Veronica Apple, Ashley Trotta, Michael Trotta, and Joseph Trotta (Eari Trotta); his great-grandchildren, Arthur Glaze, Anderson Glaze, Maysen Schall, and Asahi Trotta; and his sisters, Nancy (Apple) Brown (Steve Brown) and Gloria (Apple) Davis.

He will be remembered for his steady character, his generosity with time and mentorship, and his deep love for his family and community.

Visitation will be held from 9:30–11:00 a.m., followed by a service from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, 1305 Bridgeport Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46231. Fellowship and lunch will follow at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages honoring Don’s legacy by supporting youth sports programs or local community organizations.
