Obituary

Donald Robert Kreag , age 76, of The Villages, Florida—formerly of Crown Point and Granger, Indiana—passed away on June 9, 2025, after a two-year battle with MDS cancer.

Don was born on December 21, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, to Patricia Kost (née Grafton; formerly Kreag) and Robert Kreag. He graduated from Thornridge High School, class of 1966, in Dalton, Illinois, and went on to attend Augustana College on a swimming scholarship, where he earned All-American honors. He took great pride in having his name displayed at the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Following his time at Augustana College, Don enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction in signal intelligence as an interpreter for the Naval Security Group Command and the NSA. After his honorable discharge, he earned an MBA and launched a successful career in insurance sales, eventually owning his own agency. Don also pursued entrepreneurial ventures, including a chain of video rental stores in the South Bend, Indiana, area. He was especially proud of his time as an adjunct professor at Indiana University South Bend's School of Business and Economics.

Don never missed a chance to cheer on his children and grandchildren at their many sporting events. He played an instrumental role in acquiring land and developing the Little League fields in Granger, Indiana. Don also had a lifelong passion for golf (and the post-round card game), spending countless hours at Knollwood Country Club in Granger, Youche Country Club in Crown Point, and the many courses at The Villages. He was known for his spirited personality, sharp wit, and his uncanny ability to call during dinner—no matter the time.

Don is survived by his partner, Bonnie Rogers. Don and Bonnie reconnected at their 35th high school reunion and shared a committed partnership ever since. He is also survived by his children, Ryan (Lisa), Jason, and Margaret; and by Bonnie's daughter, Kelly (K.R.) Meyer. Don was a proud and loving grandfather to Griffin (Mike) Vanderbosch, Anna Kreag (Logan Schneider), Sophia Kreag (fiancé Christian Ulman), Will Kreag, Elizabeth Kreag, Salomae Minnear, Frances Kreag, Louisa Kreag, Cameron Meyer, and Colin Meyer. He also leaves behind two treasured great-grandchildren, Millie and Arthur. Additional surviving family members include his brother, Doug Kreag; his sister, Darrell Stadnik; and his former wife, Kathleen Kreag. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Westfield, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Don's memory to one of the following organizations:  National Ovarian Cancer Coalition: ovarian.org ; MDS Foundation: mds-foundation.org ; or Heart and Soul Free Clinic, Inc.: heartandsoulclinic.org .

Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.  Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
