Doris Weyant Dean, 91, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2022 at her residence in Palm Coast, Florida. Doris was born February 2, 1935 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Walter Bennett Weyant and Georgia (Mason) Weyant. Doris (Dottie to family and friends) was raised in Solvay, NY where she graduated high school. During her high school years, she enjoyed cheerleading and was a member of the honor society. She went on to briefly attend the New York State College for Teachers at Cortland (later known as SUNY Cortland). She married William N. Dean (Bill) also of Solvay on October 12, 1953. She and Bill went on to live on Tully Lake and began their family.

They spent several years in Tully and then moved to Daytona Beach, FL where Bill worked for GE. The beach was just down the block and she enjoyed taking her children there daily. Due to Bill’s work, the family moved a few more times but finally settled in Yorktown Heights, NY. In the early 1970’s, Dottie became a member of the Yorktown United Methodist, where she served in many roles. She was very involved in the church and served on the finance and pastor/staff-parish relations committee both of which she saw as important contributions to the church. She also loved to sing in the choir which brought her so much joy.

Bill’s work required travelling and Dottie joined him for an extended stay in the UK. They enjoyed seeing London, Scotland, and other areas. They also enjoyed family vacations across the US and many holiday gatherings with their extended family.

After all the of her 4 children were in school, she became a bookkeeper and began working at, upon its founding, William Greene & Co. in Katonah, NY. She remained working there until she retired.

Dottie lived her life with kindness and love but she was also a determined and strong woman. She was the widow of William N. Dean. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brother, Walter Weyant Jr. and his wife Shirley, her sister, Phyla Wright and her husband Paul and brother-in-law Robert Akers. She is survived by her younger sister, Marilyn Akers of Escondido, CA and Marilyn’s son Robert Akers Jr. and his lovely family; also by her 4 children: William N. Dean Jr. (Patricia) of Beaver Creek, OH, Gregory D. Dean (Kathleen) of Bunnell, FL, Jeffrey P. Dean (Steven Coleman) of White Plain, NY and Lisa D. Greuel (Judson Steere) of Bridgton, ME; 6 grandchildren: Gregory Dean Jr. (Stephanie), Melissa Quarantello (Rich), Timothy Dean, Ashley Dean, Katie Dean and Alyana New (Elias); 5 great-grandchildren, and her many wonderful nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at The Windsor of Palm Coast for their compassionate care of Dottie during her residency there.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 10:30 am at the Yorktown United Methodist Church, 2300 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 with the Reverend Roy Grubbs officiating. Interment will be on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 11:30 am at the Tully Cemetery, 71 State Street, Tully, NY 13159.
