Obituary

Dorothea A. Brown (née Morell), age 89, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, in Lady Lake, Florida,,after a long battle with parkinson's disease and dementia with grace and courage, surrounded by her family.

Born on February 23, 1935, in Lockport, New York, she was the cherished daughter of Sam and Josephine Morell (Gullo).

Dorothea's life was one of creativity, dedication, and love. A graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Lockport, she pursued higher education at The University of Miami and Penn State before earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. Her passion for art led her to a fulfilling career as an art teacher at Lewiston Porter High School, where she inspired countless students with her talent and enthusiasm.

She was a proud member of the Lewiston Garden Club for over 30 years and contributed significantly to the cultural fabric of Lewiston through her artistic endeavors. She owned and operated "The Back Door," a beloved store located at 411 Center Street in Lewiston, where she shared her love for weaving and painting with the community. Dorothea also participated in the Annual Lewiston Art Festival and the Lewiston Christmas Walks for many years, leaving an indelible mark on these cherished local traditions.

Dorothea's adventurous spirit took her around the world on numerous travels and cruises. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and found joy in the music of Kenny Rogers.  Dorothea was a longtime member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Lewiston until relocating to The Villages in Florida in 2016. Her faith provided strength throughout her life and comfort during her final days.

Dorothea is lovingly remembered by her son Clark Banks Brown (Lori) of Lady Lake, Florida; grandson Bradley Maines of Niagara Falls, New York; great-granddaughter A'laya of Niagara Falls, NY. Several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as friends and extended family members who were touched by her kindness and warmth.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband Clark Brown; parents Sam and Josephine Morell (Gullo); sister Betty Cheney (Ray); and brother Robert Morell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lewiston,NY. We will keep everyone updated as we make plans.
