With great love and gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Dorothy Louise Horwood Murphy announces her passing on May 1st, 2025 , at the age of 94.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba , Canada . Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Francis John Horwood and Jane Coupland Bell Horwood . She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Robert Horwood , and her five children: Patrick Murphy (Jeanne), James Murphy (Betty), Kathleen Morrissette (Louis), Robert Murphy (Sheryl) and William Murphy .

Dorothy, affectionately known as Dot , was a proud grandmother to Michael, James, Jonathan, Ian, and Kaitlin Murphy , and step-grandmother to Robert and Patricia Murphy, Kimberly Meister , Amy Zabala, Heather Morrissette-Flores , and Christopher Morrissette . She also cherished her five great-grandchildren: Owen, Ariana, Rylan, Ellisan , and Callan Murphy .

She is survived by her niece and nephew, Nancy Tardiff and Robert Horwood , along with their spouses and children in Winnipeg, Canada , as well as extended family in England, Scotland , and Ireland .

Dorothy began her working life at Eaton's Department Store in Winnipeg before moving to Chicago, Illinois , with her husband, George Murphy . She later worked for several years with the Musicland Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota . However, her most treasured role was that of homemaker and devoted mother .

She had a passion for traveling, gardening, bowling , crocheting, needlework, rug hooking and tackling 1,000-piece puzzles , and she shared a special bond with her dog Bailey , who crossed the Rainbow Bridge a few years prior.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2025 , at her daughter's home in The Villages, Florida . Later this summer, Dorothy will return to Winnipeg, Canada , where she will be laid to rest beside her parents at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens .

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Family, friends, and neighbors for their love and support. Special gratitude goes to the compassionate team at Chatham Glen Healthcare and Cornerstone Hospice for their dedicated care in Dorothy's final days.

Dorothy will be remembered for her laughter, warmth, quiet strength, and deep love for her family.
