Douglas Edison
Floore
October 1, 1955 – April 18, 2026
Douglas Edison Floore was born October 1, 1955, to Annie Lou (Hanner) and Ed Floore in Louisville, Kentucky. A proud son of the Bluegrass, he carried his roots with him no matter how far life took him from home.
Doug lived a life full of curiosity, humor, and deep appreciation for the things he loved most. After a brief career in social work he became a successful IT Project Manager, working for IBM, EDS, and in private consulting. His work took him around the world, including seven years in New Zealand - a place he loved enough to maintain dual citizenship. Most recently he resided in The Villages, Florida, where he spent his final years sunning by the neighborhood pool, making wonderful friendships, and dominating the local trivia scene. He was a man of wide-ranging passions: a devoted follower of UK sports, an enthusiast of Civil War history, and a collector of fine wines and bourbons,. He traveled extensively, visiting dozens of countries over the years, and did all he could to enable the travel bug in his loved ones. No matter where you were heading, it seemed Doug had "a place" to recommend. He was a connoisseur of dive bars, road food, and holes-in-the-wall. At home, he was a lover of animals and a steadfast supporter of rescue and adoption, sharing his home with many beloved pets. Doug was known for his sharp intellect, strong principles, and unmistakable sense of humor that tended to arrive right on time. He was a loyal friend, a cherished uncle, and a gifted conversationalist who never ran short on stories, insight, or odd wisdom. He also had a deep appreciation for music, earning those who knew him best frequent discussions of music from the '60s and '70s. He was a graduate of Jeffersontown High School, Class of 1973. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of Kentucky and went on to receive his Master of Science in Social Work from Tulane University. He is survived by his wife and travel partner of 33 years, Tammy Lambert; his brothers, Scott Floore (Janet) of Crestwood, Kentucky and Ted Floore (Sandy) of Jacksonville, Florida; seven nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly; and members of the Lambert family. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers and to honor Doug’s lifelong love for animals, the family asks that donations be made to Doobert Animal Guardians and Advocates.
