Obituary

Douglas James Hamilton, lovingly known as Doug, age 59, passed away on January 5, 2026, at Manatee Memorial Hospital following a stroke. He was born on November 23, 1966, in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Doug was a proud graduate of Springfield High School, Class of 1984, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated multi-sport athlete, playing football, baseball, and basketball. These formative years reflected the determination, discipline, and teamwork that would define Doug throughout his life.

Doug was proud of his education and his lifelong work ethic. He was married for a brief time to Tracy Robbins. Eventually, Doug relocated to Florida, where he built a life centered on hard work, friendship, and the enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.

A true hands-on problem solver, Doug worked in construction and maintenance and earned a reputation as someone who could fix just about anything. Known for his reliability and generosity, he never hesitated to help others, always willing to lend his skills, time, or support whenever needed.

Doug found happiness in the things he loved most—golf, softball, fishing, relaxing on Florida beaches, and cooking on the grill for family and friends. These moments, filled with laughter and good company, were where he felt most at peace.

Doug is survived by his loving father, Clifford Hamilton; his sister, Krista (Jim) Campbell; nieces Alyssa Campbell and Abi Campbell; Uncle Mike (Patty) Newton; and his life partner, Jolyn Caplan. He is also survived by many cousins and extended family members, including Linda Williams, Michelle (Mark) Slayton, Kristi Smith, and Lori (Sezai) Akdemir.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sheri (Newton) Hamilton; his cherished son, Cody James Hamilton; his grandparents, Dale and Florence Hamilton and Louis and Janet Newton; his uncles Dale Hamilton Jr., Richard Hamilton, and Kenneth Hamilton; and many cousins.

Doug will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need. His presence, skills, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
