Douglas Wayne Sullivan, known as “The Iron Man,” passed peacefully into his heavenly home on October 4, 2026, at age 61, after a courageous three-year battle with colorectal cancer. Doug fought with remarkable strength until the very end.
Doug was born on November 19, 1964, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Mary Alice Bostwick Sullivan and Emmett Wayne Sullivan Sr. He grew up in Denham Springs, Louisiana, which he considered home, before settling in Orlando, Florida.
Driven by a deep sense of duty and compassion, Doug enlisted in the United States Army at age 18 and served proudly from 1983 to 1989. His courage, resilience, and devotion to his fellow soldiers earned the respect of his peers and the gratitude of his nation.
After his military service, Doug built a career in the flooring industry and became known for his hard work and generosity. He enjoyed watching LSU football, cooking gumbo and jambalaya, and spending time with family and friends.
Doug’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. Not even an LSU victory over Alabama— “Go Tigers” over “Roll Tide”—could match the happiness he felt when spending time with them.Their company made him light up with a smile from ear to ear.
Doug touched countless lives with his warm smile, quick wit, and generous spirit. Whether reminiscing about younger days with his best friends, Ray Myers, Clark Holloway, and Harold Laird, lending a hand, or simply enjoying time with family, he lived with purpose and heart.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, France’ Sullivan, who remained by his side throughout his journey; his children, Blaine Sullivan, Megan Sullivan Rutledge (David), Austin Sullivan, Savannah Sullivan Carter (Logan), Vitoria Gomes, and Camila Gomes; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his four sisters, Pamela Sullivan, Dana Sullivan-Myers and husband Ray, Gina Sullivan, and Leslie Williford; his mother- and father-in-law, Estela and Geraldo Teixeira; his sister-n-law Cassia Silva and husband Enoque; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alice Bostwick, his stepfather, Frank Pourciau, who raised him; his later stepfather, Tommy Williford; and Emmette Wayne Sullivan Sr. and wife Jeanette; his two brothers, Emmett Wayne Sullivan Jr. and Reggie Wayne Sullivan; his maternal grandparents, Wilburn Elbert and Ophelia Thomas Bostwick; and his paternal grandparents, Reggie H. Sullivan Sr. and Ida Mae Roe Sullivan.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at Glory of God Worship Center, 1114 Rodeo Drive, Denham Springs, LA 70726, on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his wife, France Sullivan.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to the home of Ray and Dana Myers at 7711 Hunstock Road, Denham Springs, LA 70706, for food, fellowship, and to share their favorite stories about Douglas.
