Dr. Robert (“Bob”) C. Weber passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026 at his home in Venice, FL. He was born August 22, 1941 in the Arlington neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Mader) Weber. He was the fourth of eleven children; his surviving siblings include Charlotte (“Shirley”) (Bob Harkins), Diana, James (Lynn), Linda, Dennis, and Thomas (Gigi). Preceding Bob in death were Phyllis, Anna Mae, Charles, and Larry.

A gifted student and graduate of Pittsburgh’s South Side High School, Bob joined the United States Army Reserve in 1960, serving for six years, primarily at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. An avid reader, Bob became the first in his family to attend college. He first enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh through the GI Bill before transferring to Slippery Rock State College. From there, he continued his education at Miami University (Ohio), earning his master’s, and finally completing a Ph.D in English Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bob would then work in higher education for the remainder of his career, first as an English professor at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV, and then moving into administration at Worcester State College and finally retiring as Provost and Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. One significant highlight of his academic career was his award of a prestigious Fulbright scholarship in Literature at the University of Osijek, Yugoslavia (now Croatia). Bob was also a member of educational delegations to universities in Poland and Japan while at Edinboro. In recognition of his outstanding career, Bob was honored by Edinboro University when the Honors Program was officially named the Dr. Robert C. Weber Honors Program. Bob was also very proud to have endowed a scholarship at Edinboro in the name of his parents to improve educational opportunities for students.

With his first wife Betti Ruth, he had two sons, Robert (“Rob”) Alan and Wyatt Hugh. He then married Jeanne, with whom he had another son, David (“Dave”) Charles. Rob (Andrea) lives in Delaware and has three adult children, William, Sarah, and Olivia. Wyatt (MJ) lives in Florida with two adult daughters, Amelia and Julia. Dave lives in Pittsburgh with two young sons, Charles (“Chuck”) and Theodore (“Teddy”). Bob was a devoted father and was extremely proud of his sons and grandchildren and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. In later life, Bob resided in Venice, FL with his dear friend Joseph Shields.

Bob exercised regularly throughout his life, particularly enjoying running and particularly hating golf. His hobbies included collecting uranium glass, travel, genealogy, British television, and complaining about his favorite sports teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Lightning. Bob was also a published author of three fictional books and dabbled in painting from time to time. Typically quiet and reserved, he had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed turns of phrase. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
