Earl Reid Thurbon (Reid), 82, born February 9, 1943, passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Mary and Robert Thurbon. Reid moved to Florida the summer of 1951, where he was raised by his mother and step-father, Henry Moore. He was the second of 5 siblings: Robert Thurbon (Ellen), Mindy Moore, Leslie Stevens (William) and Amanda Fitzwater (Matthew). Reid grew up in West Palm Beach, FL and graduated from Forrest Hill High School and the University of Florida. After his marriage to Diane Thurbon, Reid moved to Winter Park, FL where he raised his family and made many life long friends. Reid had an unwavering love and loyalty for the Florida Gators. Win or lose, he was all in, forever proud to be a Gator. Reid was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity at the University of Florida and was still close to many of his ATO brothers 60 years later. Upon graduation from UF. Reid served his country as a reservist in the United States Army.
Professionally Reid built a solid and respected career in the women's fashion industry for over 20 years. He later went on to found Thurbon and Associates, a real estate appraisal company. Throughout his career Reid served all of his clients and business associates with dedication, integrity and genuine respect.
When he wasn't working, you could usually find Reid on the golf course —club in hand, visor on, chasing that perfect swing with the same calm determination he brought to everything. He loved the game deeply, but what he loved even more were the hours spent sharing it with friends, family, and especially teaching the grandkids how to putt. Reid was a proud member of the Country Club of Orlando.
Reid is survived by his heartbroken daughters Kristen Tight (Thomas) and Courtney Morin (Chad). To his daughters, he was simply the best dad in the world: selfless to a fault, kind, endlessly patient, and overflowing with love that never needed grand gestures to be felt.
But if there was one thing that lit up his entire world, it was his four grandchildren who lovingly called him "Grandad". Tommy, Michael, Catherine and Caroline were his pride, his joy, his reason to get up smiling every single day. Watching him with them was watching pure magic: the way his eyes sparkled when they ran to him, the endless patience for their stories and games, the pride in his voice when he talked about their latest accomplishments. He was the first fan to every ballgame or event and the last one to leave. They were his life, and he was theirs.
Reid gave his family and friends the greatest gift of all: a lifetime of love that asked for nothing in return. Go Gators!
We encourage family and friends to attend a Celebration of Life which will take place on Saturday, February 7th at 11AM at Interlachen Country Club, 2245 Interlachen Ct, Winter Park, FL 32792. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Vitas Healthcare at www.vitascommunityconnection.org
