IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward Yorke
Farquhar
September 4, 1937 – March 12, 2025
An enduring legacy!
Edward Yorke Farquhar
A noble friend to all and enemy of none, Edward "Buzzy" Farquhar raised a family from the north shore of Long Island, NY to the central region of Florida. As a loving husband to Elaine, proud father of two strong beautiful girls: Deborah and Cheryl, grandfather to five vibrant grandchildren and great-grandfather of five talented great-grand children Edward proudly anchored a successful family whom he adored and who in turn idolized him. Buzzy was a spirited student of history who was inspired by his own family lineage of American patriots that dates back to the 1800s!
He was always at the ready to share a story with a willing listener or to lend a helping hand with someone in need. Buzzy was all about fair "give and take". Whether he was the giver or taker, he always showed genuine interest in the needs and concerns of others as he beamed his trademark smile and share a supportive hug when appropriate.
"Buzzy" was recognized as a civic leader serving in leadership posts for decades in the Elks, and Lions lodges of Long Island, as well as serving as an officer in his local volunteer fire department. He was not only a "Grand Exalted Ruler" of the Elks, but also the President of the local Lions Club!
As an accomplished professional operating engineer, Edward mentored legions of young union talent that followed in his footsteps building and maintaining the powerful infrastructure of the Northshore of Nassau and Suffolk Counties of NY.
Both Buzzy and Elaine also managed to find time to put their entrepreneur hats on as they delighted summer travelers serving as the proprietors of their very own niche, summertime clam shack that was a favorite of locals and Hamptons-bound beach goers travelling along beautiful Rt 25A in Centerport, NY.
Buzzy was known as such a well-rounded sportsman. He loved being on his boat with family and friends and served as a Captain for many a leisure cruise for locals on the Long Island Sound. Once he hit the ripe young age of fifty, it was time for yet another challenge. Buzzy and Elaine learned how to ride motorcycles and chose to travel across the country on their Harley Davidson putting far younger riders to shame. They trekked, north, south, east and west on their bikes with some of their closest friends in leather with Buzzy often serving as one of the club's favorite "Captains" organizing routes and providing for the safety and wellbeing of the main body of the club.
When not working, riding, boating or serving his community Buzzy and Elaine were at their beloved cabin tucked away in the hills of Pennsylvania where he, Elaine and any brave souls that chose to join them in their rustic cabin would hunt, fish or enjoy the bucolic setting that served as his sanctuary set apart from suburbia. Buzzy found peace and joy caring for his 25 acres of prime Pennsylvania rolling hills and pristine alfalfa fields.
When retirement age arrived Buzzy and Elaine decided to pull up stakes and set their sights on a bold relocation to the sunshine state where they established a new home amongst so many
new friends that soon became "besties" along with fellow NY transplants. Whether golfing, bocci balling or expanding their spiritual horizons with Pastor Harold at the New Covenant Methodist Church while ushering every other Sunday, Buzzy continued to make new friends at a dizzying pace and getting closer to his spiritual calling in a way he had never before experienced.
Buzzy's sense of success came in the number of meaningful, enduring relationships he made with friends, colleagues, and his God. Taking the measure of Buzzy's life accomplishments with legacy building as a yardstick, his life's legacy is truly epic, enduring and should be an inspiration to all.
