Obituary

Edward Carroll Tolson, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 2nd, 2017 at the Bradley Hospice House in Summerfield, Florida surrounded by his loving family.  He was born to Harry and Anna Tolson on March 10,            1933 in Amsterdam, NY.  He was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and attended  the New York State Fire Academy at Montour Falls, NY. He was a member of Amsterdam Fire Department for 30 years retiring in 1986.  Edward loved playing and refereeing soccer games.  He refereed for High   School, College, and NY Central Soccer League.  He also played for Bigelow Sandford Soccer Club, Albany Athletic Club,  Schenecta   Football  Club, Schenectady Hibernians, and Mohawk Mills Soccer Club.  He   was a proud member of many organizations that included the following: Past commander of American   Legion Post 701  Amsterdam, NY, Forty & Eight  Voyageur, VFW post 55 Amsterdam,   NY, VFW Post 4493  of Ocala, FL, past president of Amsterdam Irish American Club, Bigelow Sandford Soccer Club, past  president and treasurer, Fraternal Order of the   Eagles, NYS Permanent Fire Fighters Assoc,  past  president, Amsterdam 7th Ward Republican club youth  baseball coach. But most of all Edward   enjoyed  spending time with family and friends along with playing his Bingo.  He is predeceased by his parents, loving wife Carol Tolson, his brothers G. Pierce, Harry, J. Howard, and his sisters Dorothy Dickson,  Beatrice Sweet, and Agnes Kinowski. He is survived by his daughters, Dana L (Fred Hamel) Hart of Ocklawaha, FL, Dawn (Mark) Prevendoski of Amsterdam, NY; grandchildren; Elizabeth (Darrell) Taylor of Ocala, FL,    Sara (Isaac Feldman) Prevendoski of Amsterdam, NY, William Tolson of Ocklawaha, FL, Edward (Alison)   Prevendoski of Smithtown, NY, Heather (Jeff) Mobley of Lithia, FL; eight great grandchildren with one on the way; one great great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews and one great friend who was like a brother, Gerry Buzeck. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am on Monday, July 10, 2017 with a    short service to follow at 11 am at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in  Ocala, FL.  After the service please feel free to join this proud veteran, who served for 4 years in the Army during the Korean War, for burial at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. The family would like to express their extreme appreciation to the Marion County Bradley House Hospice for the care given Ed in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Hospice of Marion county, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the Amsterdam Post 701 Christmas Dinner Fund, a fund he started to help feed the needy  during the holidays.
