Edwin Charles Thorn, Jr., 80, of Daytona Beach Shores, passed away on Aug. 17 He was born in Greenfield, MA January 5, 1937 to Dr. Edwin & Ellen Thorn. Ed graduated from Deerfield Academy, University of Vermont, and did his graduate work at Cornell. His career was in hospital administration. He worked at hospitals in Bronxville, NY, Woonsocket, RI, Palmer MA and Shriners Hospital in Springfield, MA. He was a faithful Masonic member of Newton Lodge, Wilbraham, MA, serving as Master of the lodge. Ed's passion was boating, sailing in New England with his young family. His late wife Louise (Hallenbrock) Thorn passed away in 1982. He later married a lifelong friend Linda (Strecker), and together they spent many years cruising on "Sea Smoke", their downeast style boat. They settled in Daytona Beach Shores, traveling every summer by boat to Rhode Island and returning in the fall to FL. Ed was also a clock collector, working on clocks and watches, and also enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda (Strecker) Thorn; sons, Edwin C. Thorn, III, Greenfield, MA and Brian C. Thorn (Mandy), San Jose, CA; sister Nancy Kaufman (Christian), Panama City & Oklahoma City, and brother Phillip Thorn, Daytona Beach Shores; stepdaughters Julie Marino (Gary), Burlington, MA and Laurie Harmon (Andrew Koontz), Princeton, NJ; grandson Desmond Marino, a niece and several nephews. Ed was a friend to all, always eager to help. His easy smile and big laugh will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at Indigo Palms, 570 National Healthcare Dr., Daytona Beach, on August 25 at 11 AM with burial at a later date in Deerfield, MA.
