IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elayne Reckahn
(Sweet)

Elayne was born October 1943 to John and Manona Newland of Buffalo, New York. Along with her sister Susan, they were full members of the Seneca Nation of Indians. Manona was one of the first women to be given the right to vote in tribal affairs.
In Oct. 1959, Elayne married Howard J. Reckahn (also of Buffalo). Together they enjoyed a long lasting marriage and raised a family.
Relocating to Florida in the early 1970's, Elayne was a 20+ year employee of Sarasota Memorial Hospital Radiology Dept. In addition to working with her husband in the food service industry. She & Howard also owned and operated the well known Venice Florida restaurant "Howard's Place" until his passing in 1992. Afterwards, Elayne went back to medical transcription as an independent contractor. Throughout her life, she was a fiercely devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved food, and was an impressive cook/baker. She also was a talented painter, and a very creative person. In addition, she was an accomplished pianist and sang in a variety of choral groups.
She is survived by her children: Christopher Reckahn and his wife Christine, Jeffrey Reckahn and his spouse Catherine, Deborah Reckahn (Dees), and Kisha Reckahn (Biche) and her husband Tom. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Faith, Alyxzander, Cassondra-Nova, Steven, Jasmine, Brandi, Isaac, Crystal, David, Jeremy.
She was loved , and loved with all her heart. She will be missed. REST IN PEACE, MOM. We love you.
