Ellen L. Madigan passed away on July 24, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by the love of family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she cared for.
Ellen was born and raised on Staten Island, New York, and spent the majority of her life in New York. She earned her nursing degree from Wagner College and enjoyed a fulfilling career at Silver Lake Care Center, where she cared for patients and the staff she helped lead. After retiring, Ellen moved to The Villages, Florida, where she embraced new hobbies and activities, spent treasured time with family, and formed many new friendships.
Ellen dedicated her professional life to nursing, a career that perfectly reflected her nurturing spirit and genuine concern for others. Through her kindness, skill, and comforting presence, she touched countless lives. For Ellen, caring for people was not simply a profession; it was who she was.
Beyond her work as a nurse, Ellen will be remembered as the ultimate hostess. Her home was a place where family gathered, memories were made, and everyone felt welcome. She had a remarkable gift for anticipating every detail, always thinking ahead to ensure the comfort and happiness of her guests. Whether hosting a holiday meal, celebrating special occasions, or welcoming visitors for a simple gathering, Ellen made everyone feel special, cared for, and at home.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Ellen P. Madigan; her brother-in-law, John Passantino; and her niece, Jennifer Passantino.
She is survived by her son, Billy (Lauren) Mittnacht; her sisters, Maureen DeMary and Joan Passantino; her nephew, Damien (Kristin) DeMary; her niece, Julie (Mark) Denning; her great-nephews, Cooper and Ethan Denning, and David and Joshua DeMary; as well as many dear friends whom she considered family. Her people were the center of her world, and she treasured every opportunity to bring them together.
Those who knew Ellen will remember her generous heart, thoughtful nature, and the countless ways she cared for others. Her warmth, laughter, and ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, located at 5323 E. County Road 462, Wildwood, Florida, on August 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ellen's memory by extending kindness and care to those around you, just as she did throughout her life.
