Elmer J. Mortensen, Jr. died on June 2, 2022 in Titusville, Florida at the age of 93.
Elmer is survived by his sister, Marjorie Seremek (Frank), resident of Lombard, Illinois; Step-Daughters – Linda King of Boulder, Colorado, Kathleen Wuerzberger of Friendship, Wisconsin, Debra Melidis of Sycamore, Illinois and Kim King of Shabbona, Illinois: Nephew David Seremek of Glen Ellyn, Illinois (wife Deborah): Grand-nephew David Seremek, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois. He is preceded in death by wife, Mary Rose Mortensen.
Elmer was born on September 20, 1928 in Evanston, Illinois to Elmer J., Sr. and Domenica Mortensen. Elmer graduated from New Trier High School in 1947. He married Mary Rose King in 1970. After marrying Mary, Elmer welcomed her four daughters into his family. Elmer served loyally in the Korean War. After the war he began working for Wilmette, Illinois as a fireman. Elmer loved his golf for more than 50 years after learning as a youth as a caddie at Indian Hills Country Club in Winnetka, Illinois. He was a long-time and dedicated member of the Indian River City Methodist Church.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm, at Indian River City Methodist Church Chapel. Reverend Stuart will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Elmer's life.
