Obituary

Elsie Jane (Appleberg) Berlin, known by most as Jane or Nonny, 84, of Kissimmee, FL, formerly from Woodstock, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026. 

Jane was born to Walter Andrew and Esther Augusta (Kortman) Appleberg on June 17, 1941, in Oqueoc, Michigan. She is survived by her beloved spouse of 64 years Jack Berlin. Jane is also survived by her loved family members brother Peter (Linda) Appleberg, sister in law Donna Appleberg & children Rob Berlin, Kent Berlin, Kimberly (Steven) Kunzie, and Michele (Wayne) Christensen. She was adored and loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as their Nonny: Jacqueline "Jacy" (Jeremy) Crable, Josephine and Juliette Crable. James "Jimmy" Nicholas, Lydia (Joshua) Lam, Caleb Christensen, Zachariah Christensen, Luke (Laura) Kunzie (Lucy Kunzie), and Lillian "Lily" Kunzie. She is also survived by many beloved friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Walter Appleberg; grandsons Jonathan and Jarrett Berlin; sisters Carrie Vought and Lillian Sanders; and brothers Walter and Robert Appleberg. 

Jane worked as the administrative assistant at Family Alliance, Inc. for many years. She dedicated her life to family, faith, and community service. She was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge 1329 and the Women of the Moose Chapter 364, the McHenry County Historical Society, Grace Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council and as a Stephen Minister, and Good Samaritan Community Church. She enjoyed helping at the Friday night fish fries at the Moose and running the bake sale for the annual Heritage Fair for the Historical Society. After her move to Kissimmee, she served as a volunteer for the Good Samaritan Library. 

Those who knew Jane will remember her for her love of family and friends, always welcoming everyone by sharing a baked treat or a meal. The family appreciates the love, support, and prayers of friends and loved ones during this difficult time. A private service for immediate family will be held at a later date. Elsie Jane will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
