Obituary

Erma L. Grigg Bitzer, 90, entered heaven on Wednesday July 30, 2025, with her children by her side.

The youngest of eight children, Erma was born on October 14, 1934, in Coffeen, Illinois to Samuel and Pluma Grigg. They proceeded her in death.

Erma was raised on a farm in Southern Illinois and married Aaron "Butch" Hinton in Bingham, Illinois, in 1953. They later divorced. Erma lived in Glen Carbon, Illinois until 1979 where she remarried and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She moved back to Illinois in 2014 after her husband, Ralph Bitzer passed away. She then moved to The Villages, Florida in 2017.

Erma worked as a secretary in her early years and later became a hairdresser. She owned Holiday Beauty Shop in Glen Carbon and later became a school bus driver. She obtained her real estate and broker license when she moved to Arizona. This was her career until she retired in 1996.

Erma was adventurous and full of life. She learned to ride a motorcycle at the age of 50. She loved sewing and embroidering. She loved to shop, often buying the most dazzling and sparkling clothes and accessories she could find. Her most fun was bowling. She was a fierce competitor and enjoyed the lasting friendships she made there. She was an active member of Village View Community Church, where she participated in various activities and developed numerous meaningful relationships.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Eula Hoffmann, Elsie Whitten, Arthur, Archie and Arlie Grigg and an infant brother and sister.

She is survived by her three children: Kevin Hinton (Terri) of Decatur, Illinois, Karen Beasley (Mark); and Karla Bulluck (Dee), both residing in The Villages, Florida, granddaughters Amy Sutherland (Andy) and Heather Kypta (Greg), grandsons Mason Hinton (Kirsten) and Hunter Bulluck, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23, 2025, 11:00 am at Village View Community Church, 8585 SE 147th Pl, Summerfield, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Village View Church Brownwood.

This honors Erma's legacy. She was deeply committed to having a life-giving church in her community.
