Ernesto Alberto
Labrador
August 7, 1940 – March 28, 2026
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Ernest Alberto Labrador—affectionately known as Ernest, Ernie, Opa or Uncle Joe—who went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born on August 7, 1940, in New York City, Ernest lived a life defined by service, strength, and unwavering faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and went on to dedicate many years to the New York Police Department as a respected homicide detective. His work reflected his deep commitment to justice and protecting others.
In his second career, Ernest followed his passion for the Culinary Arts, becoming an accomplished chef known not only for his skill, but for the joy and fellowship he created through food. He ended that career by teaching Culinary Arts at Lorenzo Walker Technical College. Chef Labrador is well remembered. Above all, he was a man of strong Christian faith. As a devoted member of First Baptist Naples, he led Bible studies in local prisons and shelters, faithfully sharing the hope and love of Christ with those in need.
He was a beloved husband of almost 64 years, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
His greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Labrador, his children, Roy (wife Anissa) and Nicola (wife Gladis); his cherished grandchildren, Christina, Alexyse, John, MiKayla, Karina, and Jake along with his 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael Labrador, a Missionary in Ecuador, and is also survived by Michael’s wife, Lauren and stepchildren Kate and Justin. As well as all of his nieces and nephews in Germany and here at home.
Ernest will be remembered for his strength, his servant’s heart, and his steadfast faith. His life touched many, and his legacy will live on through all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
