Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eugene Peter Burns, who died peacefully on May 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old.

Born on June 29, 1947, in Manhattan, New York, Eugene was the son of Irish immigrants Arthur and Anna Burns. Growing up in a family that valued hard work and resilience, Eugene carried these qualities with him throughout his life.

Eugene proudly served in the U.S. Navy, a chapter of his life that sparked his lifelong love of travel. After his military service, he went on to have a long and fulfilling career at United Airlines, where he worked for 35 years, exploring the world and making countless memories along the way.

In 2008, Eugene relocated to The Villages, Florida, where he found new joy in life. It was there that he met and married his beloved wife, Dorothy. Together, they shared many happy years filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Eugene loved traveling with Jennifer, his daughter, and Dorothy, and was an avid player of water volleyball. He also found great purpose in his faith, being an active member of New Life Christian Church, where he formed lasting friendships and connections.

Eugene's family was the center of his world. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Jennifer; and Dorothy's sons, Richard, Frank, and Christopher. He is also survived by his brother, Arthur (Rosemary), and several nieces and nephews who held him close to their hearts.

Eugene was predeceased by his sister, Annamay, and his nephew, Sean, both of whom he loved deeply.

A man of great character, Eugene's kindness, humor, and wisdom will forever be remembered. His absence leaves a space in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched.
