Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Jenkin, 78 Eugene (Gene) E. Jenkin, 78, died June 28, 2017, at his home in Edgewater, Florida. He was born October 16, 1938, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Lester and Alma Jenkin. Gene was a talented artist in many formats, especially painting, and he loved nature and the wilderness. He worked for the Boy Scouts of America at their national headquarters in Irving, Texas, for more than 20 years. During that time, he worked on the annual National Scout Jamborees every year and designed many of their campaigns and badges. He took pride in getting to work early and having coffee ready when everyone else arrived. He retired in 2006. Prior to the Boy Scouts, Gene also worked as an architect, land surveyor, forest ranger, and general manager. He attended Tonawanda High School in New York, Wanakena Forest Ranger School, and Syracuse University. In his youth, he loved archery, dancing, and ice skating. When he was middle aged, his co-workers called him "Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine." He collected autographs and was known for his quirky, contagious sense of humor. Gene is survived by his son, Patrick Jenkin, and daughters, Jeannine McKnight and Mary Luddeni, as well as his granddaughter, Leah Gunion; two great grandchildren, Logan Gunion and Jason Broadwater; his brothers, Garry and Larry Jenkin; and many nieces and a nephew. At Gene's request, the service was private for immediate family only.
