IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Flora Jane
Maccoll
March 28, 1948 – April 19, 2018
Flora Jane MacColl of New Smyrna Beach, died on Thursday, April 19, at Florida Hospital, New Smyrna Beach. Flora was born on March 28, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, to George and Edith MacColl. The family moved to Miami, Florida, and Flora spent most of her early life and high school years in south Florida. She attended and received an Associates Degree from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida, where she became a resident until the 1980's, when she moved to Tallahassee. She worked in the graphic arts trade, first with Homes and Lands magazine, and later at the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper. While there, Flora met another Democrat employee, William Griffin, and they were married in 1987 in Mexico Beach, Florida, where they were living at the time, and working at the Panama City News Herald newspaper. Flora and William parted ways in 1995, to be reunited in 2009 in New Smyrna Beach, where Flora was living. They remained together there until Flora's death.
"I tried my best, I knew and felt compassion for all living things; the birds, other wild creatures, people and animals who were abused."
According to Flora's wishes, she will be cremated, and her ashes buried at Prairie Creek Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida. In lieu of flowers or other remembrances, donations to National Sexual Assault Hotline would be appreciated. Baldwin Brothers in New Smyrna Beach is in charge of arrangements.
