Floyd Dale Long, 68, a 36-year resident of North Port, Florida died on Monday, June 8th, 2026. Free from pain, Dale has returned to the Source, cocooned in God's eternal embrace.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Billy Floyd Long and Mary Catherine Hughes Long, and brother Lynn Long.

He is survived by his wife, Roma Long, with her brother, Andrew Steckiw; daughters, Nikki Banks, and Tara Haynes; brothers, Tommy Long (Lisa), Robert Long (Ginger), and Mark Long (Anita); sisters, Pam Felker and Malynda Long; uncle, Wallace Hughes Jr, and other family members.

Growing up with six siblings in Knoxville Tennessee, "Love of the great outdoors" was the family “norm”, their mainstay.

Dale joined the Navy to honor his country. After moving to North Port, Florida - “Captain Floyd" taught others: fishing, hunting, & survivor skills.

At the North and South Jetties he could hook into a fish the moment he arrived, to the amazement of others who could NOT.

When asked how, his reply was, "You're not holding your tongue right..!!!”

And now, Captain Floyd?

A service for Dale will be held Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, at 10:00 am at St Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church
