Estero, Fl – Forest D. "Army" Armstrong, of Estero, Florida, passed away at 11 p.m., Monday December 17, 2018 at Life Care Center of Estero nursing home. Forest was born July 17, 1937, in Shelby County, the son of Robert and Faye Lewis Armstrong. He married Frances Marsh on June 22, 1963 in Decatur, IL, she preceded him in death.
Forest retired from Firestone/Bridgestone in Decatur in February 1995, after 32 years of employment. Forest was called to active duty in the United States Army January 1958, through December, 1963, honorable discharge as an E5-Sergeant. He loved to fish and he never met a stranger. He was a member of the Estero, Fl United Methodist Church. Surviving are his partner of 11 years, Carolyn Hughes; sons Dan Murray and wife Kelly of Ballwin, MO; Ken Murray and wife Tricia of Morrison, TN, daughter Cherie Jo Ashley and husband Mark of Mackinaw, IL; daughters-in-law Cindy McQuality of Forsyth, IL and Debbie Murray of Morrison, TN, grandchildren: Katie (John) Howley of Decatur, IL, Kristin Murray of Decatur, IL, Kayley (Cody) Pierce of Morrison, TN, Kameron Murray of Ballwin, MO, Kellan Murray of Ballwin, MO; great-grandchildren: Evan John and Colin Howley of Decatur, IL; brothers: Max Dean Armstrong of Shelbyville; sisters: Jessie Mae Polley and husband Eddie of Decatur, IL, Glenna Sue Taylor and husband Robert of Cowden, IL, Marian Lee Lorton and husband Brad of Riverton, IL and Eileen McElroy and husband Bob of Estero, FL; granddogs: Khloe and Kayla Ashley.
Forest was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tamila Jo, brothers: Howard "Dick" Armstrong, Bill Bert Armstrong, Leo Earl Armstrong, Harold Wayne Armstrong, Russell Lewis "Bub" Armstrong; sisters: Betty June Armstrong, Alta Joan Cox, Patricia Fay Bialeschski, and Lucretia Maude Baldwin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
There will not be a funeral, graveside, or memorial service.
