Obituary

Francesco "Franco" Busillo (1946–2025)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Francesco "Franco" Busillo, who died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on April 26, 2025. Born on April 9, 1946, in Salerno, Italy, Franco immigrated to the United States as a teenager, settling in Chicago before making Florida his home in 1978.

Franco lived life with passion and a spirit of adventure. A devoted member of his scuba diving club, he found joy in exploring the depths of the ocean and counted it among his favorite places to be. He loved boating, fishing, and spending time in nature, always happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Whether sharing a meal, telling a story, or planning his next trip, Franco embraced life's simple pleasures—good food, laughter, and meaningful connection.

An avid soccer fan and player, Franco worked as hard as he played. He was the proud founder and owner of Chapter One Hair Salon, where he spent most days behind the chair, engaging warmly with clients and building a legacy of care and dedication. His work ethic was matched only by his love for his family.

Franco was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who held tradition close to his heart. Sunday dinners were sacred—he was an exceptional cook and always prepared enough food to feed an army. His warmth, generosity, and infectious laugh left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Franco was preceded in death by his parents, Liberato and Carmella (née Pipolo) Busillo, and his brother, Gino Busillo. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores (née Hetzel) Busillo; his children, Frank (Tula) Busillo and Barbara (Gerald) Morelli; his sister, Angela Busillo; his sister-in-law, Angela Mordente; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Morelli and Fiorella Busillo. He is also lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Franco will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering generosity, and the joy he brought to others. His zest for life and deep love for his family will live on in all who knew him.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Dr., Sarasota, FL 34231. A reception will follow in the church's Spirit Center.
