Obituary

Frank LaRoche III, 65, passed away at his Ocklawaha, Florida home surrounded by loved ones on August 1, 2026, after a long illness. A service will be held at Florida National Cemetery (Timucua Cir, Bushnell, FL 33513) on September 18th at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life to follow.

Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, into a US Navy family, he moved with his family to Summerfield, Florida following his father's retirement. At the age of 18, Frank joined the US Army and proudly served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. During his time in the service, he drove tanks, flew helicopters, served in Korea, Iraq, Kuwait, and fought in Desert Storm. He was a First Sergeant and a Cavalry Scout. His military accomplishments include the Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation & Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze stars. After retiring from the Army, Frank joined the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office in Concord, North Carolina, for 10 years, first as a patrol officer, then as a crime scene investigator. He was a leader in both roles.

Frank enjoyed welding, tinkering in his shop, cooking feasts on his homemade smokers, and spending time with his family and many friends. He will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and stubbornness.

Parents, Frank LaRoche, Jr. and Jean LaRoche, and brother Allen LaRoche preceded him in death. Survivors include his bride of nearly 45 years, Lisa (Gramling); children Frank LaRoche IV (Correne) and Melissa (Chris) Thrush; his grandson, Gavin Thrush; his youngest brother, Steve (Kimberly) LaRoche; his sister-in-law, Deana LaRoche, wife of his late brother, Allen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to St. Jude, a cause near to Frank’s heart.
