Lackland Means, Sr.
Frank Lackland Means, Sr., a devoted husband, father, and respected figure in the construction industry, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on June 19, 1926, in San Antonio, Texas, Frank was one of seven siblings who thrived in a household rich with love and laughter.
An outstanding student athlete, Frank's exceptional talent earned him a football scholarship to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he became a four-sport letterman—an extraordinary achievement at the time and one that would be virtually impossible in today's specialized world of athletics. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Martha Louise Andrews, daughter of a prominent cotton merchant in Memphis, Tennessee. Their 60 years of marriage were filled with joy, partnership, and unwavering support for one another until Martha's passing in 2016 at the age of 85.
Frank dedicated his career to construction management, beginning with small, single-family homes and ultimately overseeing the construction of towering office buildings and convention hotels. His final project was especially meaningful: he managed the building of his and Martha's retirement home on the golf course in Shalimar, Florida. After enjoying 22 years in that beautiful community, Frank and Martha relocated to Corsicana, Texas, to be closer to their three sons and, more importantly, their four grandchildren, all within a 50-mile radius.
For the last six years of his life, Frank, Sr. resided in The Villages, Florida, living independently until the very end. He found great joy in frequent visits from his sons and their families, including Allin and Kelle Means of St. Louis, Charles and Pamela Means of Corsicana and Frank, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, who lived nearby. Frank's home was always a gathering place, filled with love and laughter, reflecting the strong family bonds he cherished.
A born-again Christian, Frank had the assurance of living now and forever in paradise with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through every challenge and triumph.
Frank is survived by his three sons, who carry forward his values, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will remember him for his warmth and wisdom. His legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication will forever inspire those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Dad. Your spirit will continue to guide and inspire all of us as we celebrate a life well-lived.
