IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick Peter
Fingerlin
July 8, 1939 – January 19, 2026
Frederick P. Fingerlin, age 86, passed away on January 19, 2026, in The Villages, Florida.
Fred was a man whose greatest joy came from being around people. Whether sharing a laugh at a gathering or simply engaging in a quiet conversation, he made everyone feel seen, valued, and cared for. Known for his quick wit, warm sense of humor, and endless optimism, he was often the life of the party—but he also had the rare gift of giving his full attention to anyone he spoke with, making them feel truly special.
In New Jersey, Fred devoted his life to service—first as a proud veteran of the United States Army, and later as President of his neighborhood Civic Association and an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Jaycees. He was always eager to support causes and raise funds that made a difference in people’s lives. He also served as a member of the Sayreville Board of Education and was involved in local politics.
After relocating to The Villages, Florida, he became a cherished member of the local Irish American Club serving as president, continued service in the Knights of Columbus, and brought people together with his energy, warmth, and infectious laughter. A devoted parishioner of St. Theresa Church, he welcomed all as a greeter, welcoming everyone with a smile and kind word, reflecting the generosity and love that defined his life.
An avid golfer and bowler, Fred enjoyed weekly camaraderie and laughter with his long-time friends. His love of dancing and music added joy to every occasion, celebrating life in the way he lived it—fully, joyfully, and with others at his side.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melita, and son Frederick Fingerlin Jr. He is survived by his loving children: Robert, Michael, Cynthia Hurley, and Richard; the love of his later years, Helene McLees; and dear siblings, Alice Hofer and Richard Fingerlin. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy and pride. Countless friends, extended family, and community members whose lives he touched will miss him dearly.
Fred’s humor, generosity, and genuine love for people will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held on Monday, February 16 at 10am at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Belleview, FL. The church is located at 11528 SE US Highway 301 after which family and friends are invited to a reception in the church hall. He will be reunited with his wife, Melita and laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL the following day.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church in memory of Fred Fingerlin. Offertory Link: https://secure.myvanco.com/L-ZHCT/campaign/C-145GF
