G. Fred Herdel Jr., 81, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 14.

Fred was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was marked by love for his family and quiet strength. He shared 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carol Kennedy Herdel, building a life rooted in commitment, care, and enduring partnership.

He is survived by his wife Carol; his son, Dr. G. Fred Herdel III and daughter-in-law Jennifer of New Smyrna Beach, FL; his daughter, Daneen Fretz, and son-in-law Scott of Pawleys Island, SC and his four cherished grandsons, Brendan Herdel, Ryan Herdel, Zachary Fretz, and Colby Fretz, who brought him great pride and joy; and his brother Frank Hunsberger, and Joan of New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Fred will be remembered for his steady presence, deep love for his family, and the legacy of kindness and devotion he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
