Obituary

G. John Schiemer, 68, passed away suddenly on May 29, 2013, in Orlando, Florida, where in recent months he valiantly battled the ravages of congestive heart failure.   He was Methodist. Born July 10, 1944, in Austin, Texas, Mr. Schiemer was the beloved son of the late George R. and Eleanor E. Schiemer, and moved to Orlando at the age of eight.  He attended Fern Creek Elem. School, Glenridge Jr. High School, Edgewater and Winter Park High Schools and Orlando Jr. College.  He was a Boy Scout and later served honorably in the Navy Reserve. His first job as a teenager was at the original Winn Dixie store located at the corner of Bumby and Colonial in Orlando, to which he rode his bike after school.  He relished bringing home miniature pecan pies every day.  Later, after many successful years in the banking industry during which time he apprehended a fleeing robber, he became associated as an investigator with a large personal injury law firm in Orlando, remaining in this position for many years up to the present. Mr. Schiemer had a great love of nature and animals, and leaves behind his loyal canine friend, Leia.  He was an accomplished skier, snow and water, fisherman, and all-around athlete especially enjoying baseball and football.  An avid reader all his life,  he was a history buff having visited many historic sites as a child with his family. Articulate and an eloquent speaker, John was a congenial person who enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life, easily conversing with them on a myriad of topics.  The joys of his life were his precious children, Heidi J., Schiemer, Cincinnati, OH., Elizabeth (Jeff) Lawrence, Germantown, MD. and  G. John Schiemer III, Winter Park, FL., and adored grandchildren, Jodah, Beren and six-week old Cora Lawrence, Germantown.  In them, the sun rose and set.  He also is survived by his former wife Sheila S. Schiemer, Germantown, sister Joan Schiemer, Orlando, sister Sarah (Bob) Eagan, Maitland, FL., brother, Paul Schiemer; nephew, Aaron Eagan, Orlando, niece, Ellie Eagan, Maitland, and cherished cousins and dear friends across the country.   A handsome, debonair man of exquisite taste and aqua blue eyes, he possessed a warm, generous and sensitive heart.  He was that person who, when choosing greeting cards, picked the ones with the most sentimental verses, thus revealing his true, but often unspoken feelings for those he cared so much about.  Gone too soon, we shall miss him every day.  Until that time when we are reunited, he will remain safely in our hearts.  Godspeed, dearest John.   You were a special person who brought so much to the world and to us, and we thank you for that   A graveside service will be held 11AM, Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Palm Cemetery, Winter Park.  A Life Celebration will immediately follow at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park.
