Obituary

Gail Marie Brown (née Floyd)–a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend–passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida, at the age of 74. Born on September 19, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas, Gail lived a life rich in love, laughter, and creativity.

Gail was a cherished daughter of Rebecca (née Dumas) and Donald Floyd. Her family moved frequently during her childhood, and she came of age in Independence, Missouri, graduating from William Chrisman High School. She went on to attend the University of Missouri, Columbia, and Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, carrying a lifelong curiosity and love of learning.

It was in the Kansas City area that Gail met Kevin. The two were married in 1975 in Kansas City, Missouri. Over more than 51 years together, they built a partnership rooted in shared adventure — a mutual love of travel and of exploring life's interests side by side. Gail poured herself into motherhood, devoting herself to raising her son, Adam. She was a fixture in his schools at every level — elementary, middle, and high school — volunteering her time, active in the PTA, and enthusiastically involved in his extracurricular life.

About 13 years ago, Gail and Kevin moved to Cape Coral, Florida, where Gail's creative spirit truly flourished. She became a wide-ranging artist, moving fluidly between painting, sketching, ukulele, and piano. She enjoyed auditing multidisciplinary art classes at Florida Gulf Coast University to continue learning and growing as an artist. Travel remained a constant joy throughout her and Kevin's life together, with Hawaii and cruises holding a special place in her heart.

Gail was also deeply engaged in her Cape Coral community. She was a member of Pine Island ROAR, a regular presence at Jaycee Jams – an informal gathering of musicians at Jaycee Park where she loved to play her ukulele – and volunteered for several years as an ESL teacher with Beacon of HOPE Pine Island, sharing her gift for connection and her belief in the value of education.

Gail leaves her husband of 51 years, Kevin; son, Adam (Lori); sister, Sheryl Stewart (Tom); brother, Donald Floyd, Jr. (Wendy); niece, Lauren (Tony); nephews, Aaron (Haley) and Ross; grand-nieces Ariadne and Madeline; and grand-nephew Zachary.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Beacon of HOPE Pine Island (https://beaconofhopepineisland.com/donate/) or the Alliance for the Arts (https://www.artinlee.org/engage/donate/), honoring Gail's spirit of service and her lifelong devotion to creativity and community.

A memorial service will be held at Baldwin Brothers A Funeral & Cremation Society: Cape Coral Funeral Home (290 Nicholas Pkwy NW, Cape Coral, FL 33991) on Saturday August 1st, 2026 from 1-3pm.
