Gary
Miklic
April 22, 1951 – December 28, 2020
Gary Miklic, 69, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away on December 28, 2020 at Gulf Coast Medical Center after a long battle with lung disease.
Gary was born in Akron, Ohio to Joseph and Mary Ann (Lewandowski) Miklic where he grew up with his sister Gail. Gary graduated from Stow High School in 1969. In 1972, he married Nancy Carter Miklic, they were married for 47 years when she passed away in 2019. Gary, Nancy and their two children Amy and Andy moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1981, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Gary retired from the Hertz Corporation. Prior to that, Gary worked for the Wise Corporation and Eastern Airlines.
Gary was a kind and caring man and enjoyed the simple things in life. His quick-wit humor and insight will be greatly missed, along with his smile. He loved music, animals, plants and making people laugh. Gary became known for his unique sense of humor. Everyone that knew Gary has a story to tell, words of wisdom to live by, or a joke to pass on. His love of music and passion for the drums is a large part of his story. He was in a band in high school and at the age of 15, he was awarded a scholarship to Baldwin Wallace College. He worked for the Akron Music Center where he taught drum lessons and collaborated with famous, touring drummers. He wrote, played and recorded music for the Lemon Pipers and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. During the early 70's he had the opportunity to go on tour with Gary Puckett and the Union Gap band, but he declined.
Gary's knowledge and love of animals brought the most unique critters into his care. You never knew what animal would be in his jungle-like backyard or garage. Because of that, family and friends had the opportunity to hold and care for animals that most people only see in books. He also enjoyed and looked forward to his visits with dear friends.
Gary was a beloved son, husband, brother, brother-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, godfather and friend. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Ann Miklic, his wife Nancy Carter Miklic and brother-in-law Gary Carter. He is survived by his daughter Amy (Mark) Fullwiler and granddaughter Emily of Beaverton, Oregon, son Andy Miklic of Fort Myers, Florida, sister Gail Miklic of Fort Myers, Florida, sister-in-law, Linda (Mike) Remen of Port St. John, Florida, Nephew Brandon (Jessica) Carter of Bluffton, South Carolina, niece Lindsay (Sean) Bailey of Canton, Georgia and Godchildren; Brent Mohr, Jana (Brandon) Hawley and Connor Mohr of Fort Myers, Florida.
Due to the difficult times of Covid, a Celebration of Life will be postponed until a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary.
