George
Bolen Jr
Mar 18, 1946 — Oct 19, 2026
Naples, FL
George Lawrence Bolen Jr., 80, of Naples, Florida, passed away on October 19, 2026, surrounded by family. For 35 years he was an assistant district attorney in New York.
Born in Brooklyn on March 18, 1946, to George Lawrence Bolen Sr. and Adelaide Haynes Bolen, George grew up in Manhasset, Long Island. He graduated from Cranwell Prep in Lenox, Mass, the University of Pennsylvania in 1968, and earned his law degree at the University of Virginia in 1971. Commissioned through ROTC at Penn, he served briefly in the Army, including time in the reserves.
Camp Acadia in Livingston Manor, New York, was his favorite place. He spent his summers there, met Margaret Ann "Pam" Moser, and served as a counselor to his future brother-in-law. George and Pam married on August 21, 1971, in Scarsdale, New York.
George joined the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in 1972, one of the last prosecutors hired by Frank S. Hogan, who led the office for 32 years. In 1975 he moved to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, where he served until 2007. His best-known case came in 1980 and 1981, when he was chief prosecutor in the White Plains trial of Jean Harris for the murder of Dr. Herman Tarnower, the Scarsdale Diet doctor. Harris was convicted of second-degree murder. The trial drew national attention and was dramatized in a 1981 NBC film, The People vs. Jean Harris, in which Peter Coyote played George. He also took pride in mentoring younger prosecutors.
George and Pam raised their family in Pleasantville, New York, from 1976 to 2016, where he coached both of his children's AYSO soccer teams and served as co-chair of the Committee for a Better Pleasantville.
They bought a home in Naples in 2004, and after George retired in 2007 they spent their winters there. From 2016 to 2026 they spent summers at Heritage Hills in Somers, New York, before moving to Naples full time this year. At Pelican Bay he served on the board of the Pebble Creek condo association and was its president for two years.
Golf at Quail Run Golf Club was the center of his life in Naples. He loved to read, a habit he started as a boy with a flashlight under the sheets past his bedtime, and he never lost his taste for detective novels. He and Pam traveled widely together, including river cruises and safaris. He enjoyed dining out and made dinner reservations months in advance. Friends will remember his wry humor and booming laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pam; his son, Geoffrey Bolen; his daughter, Kelly Bolen, and son-in-law, Scott Palmer. He was predeceased by his sister, Carroll Banta.
A funeral will be held at St. William Catholic Church in Naples on December 3rd at 10 am, followed by a lunch in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Arrangements are by Baldwin Brothers, Naples, FL.
The family thanks the oncology team at NCH Baker Hospital, the hospice team at Avow, and the physical therapists at Trilogy for their great care.
