George Bowden Goethe, 83, of Sarasota died on September 2, 2021 in Sarasota.

George's life was characterized by love. He loved God and he loved his neighbor. He loved his country, his local community, and his church. He loved his family and friends boundlessly and unconditionally. He had a very special place in his heart for those who call the streets "home", and a ready smile for everyone he encountered.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Hale Goethe of Sarasota; his son Jeffrey Goethe and daughter-in-law Jeannie Goethe of Bradenton; his daughter-in-law Penny Goethe of Bradenton; his brother John Mercer and sister-in-law Sharon Mercer of Bradenton; his sister Jean Stansbury of Sun City; sister-in-law Rebecca Hale, and brothers-in-law Michael Frantz and Darrel Hale of Sarasota. In addition, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-.grandchild; seven nieces and nephews.

​ He is predeceased by his son Kirk Goethe, 2021; his grandson Ryan Goethe, 2020; and his brother-in-law David Hale, 2013.

Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery on a date to be determined.
